The governor of Imo state, Rochas Okorocha has debunked report that he will dump the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP).
He described the report which was credited to a “faceless group”, the Imo Progressives and Consultative Assembly, signed by two “fictitious persons”, Nze Benjamin Irohah and Benjamin Ogoke as coordinator and secretary, as unfounded and malicious, The Nation reports.

He said: “As a responsible government, we won’t allow Nigerians, especially Imo people, to be deceived. The PDP in Imo State was responsible for the falsehood. They first planted the fallacy in an Owerri-based tabloid, we ignored them and then they hid under a faceless group to send the malicious lies to national newspapers.
“It shows the pitiable level the PDP has degenerated into in Imo State. They do these into deceive the President by giving him a wrong picture of the status of the party in the state. If
truth is sacred, then we owe Nigerians the truth, and the truth on this matter is that Governor Okorocha has never contemplated leaving the APC, and to say the least, joining the PDP.”
The statement explained that the rumour started a few days after the wedding of Governor Okorocha’s daughter which was attended by two PDP governors, Chief Theodore Orji of Abia State and Godswill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom State.
“The Imo PDP came up with the cock and bull story a few days after the wedding, just to undermine its success,” he added.
The governor’s aide noted that the reason for the Imo PDP coming up with the falsehood was because Okorocha maintains a cordial relationship with PDP governors and has no rift with President Jonathan, adding: “Politics does not make people enemies.”
He therefore called on Nigerians to believe in APC as Okorocha had given the party befitting teeth in Imo state and the South East.
